Type IV is uncommon, accounting for less than ten per cent of all cases. Osmoregulated vasopressin secretion is entirely normal, yet patients still fulfil the criteria of SIAD. Antidiuretic hormones other than vasopressin (e.g. vasotocin) may be responsible. Alternatively, the defect may lie within the kidney.
